A winter wedding marquee for a New Year’s Eve wedding
The event
Jess and James had always dreamt of a black-tie wedding on New Year’s Eve. They wanted to celebrate their marriage with their friends and family in a winter wonderland.
Their chosen venue was the garden of a house that has been in the family for many years and held a special place in the bride’s heart.
Time Marquees were approached by the couple regarding winter wedding marquee hire because we had supplied structures for another member of their family’s wedding reception in the past. They knew we could bring their wedding and party vision to life against the spectacular backdrop they had selected.
The brief
Cold temperatures and fewer daylight hours mean that autumn and winter marquee hire comes with a few extra requirements – especially for wedding venues in rural and heritage settings. Luckily, we’ve got a range of winter wedding marquees, along with plenty of solutions to make arrangements stress free.
James and Jess wanted their wedding guests to dance the night away amongst sparkling lights, champagne bubbles and confetti – not rain, snow, frost or mud!
Soft ground underfoot called for boarded floors. Unpredictable skies above would make covered walkways between the marquee, toilets and car park a must. The bar area would need to be big enough to hold all the revellers – but it would need marquee heaters and heavy doors to keep the warmth in.
A number of protected trees at the chosen location would have to be avoided, too.
Our brief had to be adapted around COVID-19 rules, which had postponed Jess and James’ winter wedding from 2020 to 2021 and were still in force until the final hour.
The solution
Time Marquees combined our winter wedding marquees hire expertise and party marquee hire creativity to achieve Jess and James’ New Year’s Eve winter wonderland wedding, as follows:
- Met with the bride and groom at the desired site so they could explain their vision
- Took precise measurements, plotting the event around the protected trees, creating a floor plan to share with the couple
- Provided a comprehensive quote based around the location and seasonal weather, including all additional heating, lighting and flooring costs
- Reviewed the quote/plan following the pandemic, adapting it around changes to guest numbers and to meet social distancing guidance
- Set up a clearspan marquee dressed in theme of a black-tie event, featuring blackout linings with a ‘night sky’ of fairy lights over the dance floor, clear roof panels covered in lights over the Chillspace bar area and luxurious ivory linings behind the top table, complementing the flowers and candles
- Installed a ‘reveal’ curtain to separate the reception/bar and dining areas, creating a ‘wow’ factor when the wedding breakfast was served
- Put luxury loos inside an adjacent marquee, so guests didn’t have to venture outside
- Supplied three thermostatically controlled indirect warm air marquee heaters for the main marquee and toilet marquee, as well as a set of glass doors to keep the heat in
- Built a 24m walkway down to the entrance of the marquee – due to the soft ground this needed to all be on raised boarded wooden flooring
- Lit car park and smoking areas as well as the wedding marquee
